The Treat has built a commendable reputation over the years for being the salon that nails it all. With more than ten successful franchises spread across the Johannesburg Metropolitan, there is no doubt that Dany Gharzo, The Treat’s owner, is strategic in her way of conducting business. The Treat has achieved impressive franchise growth with aims to add new franchise locations around the country, then to the world at large.
The Treat is a local is lekker brand, founded in Randburg, South Africa (2003) by Dany, with some assistance from her husband- Ali. After quitting her job as a personal assistant at the Lebanese embassy in Pretoria, Dany decided to take a chance on becoming her own boss and started her salon, which was very small at the time and focused only on waxing. Ali came in as an investor, assisting financially with leasing premises to operate from, purchasing equipment and furniture for the salon.
Before she knew it, more and more people started showing up at ‘The Treat’& Dany had to relocate to bigger premises to accommodate clients comfortably, whilst adding more services, from hair to massages. The Treat has always provided exceptional service and a space where women gather to enjoy the services at affordable prices. Due to this, the opportunity availed itself to franchise the store and this is how the business escalated.
“The idea of franchising The Treat was planted in me by my clients”, says Dany. “Clients were always asking me to set up more salons at different locations”. Dany adds that “this was only the beginning of multiple opportunities. An opportunity to give others a chance at entrepreneurship, which will create more jobs and help more families get by. An opportunity to get The Treat out there. I sit down with the franchisees and explain the A-Z of the business. I introduce them to all my suppliers for all my products. I go the extra mile because I want them to succeed”, states the beauty mogul. Dany is there to assist every step of the way, from setting up paperwork, viewing buildings, plumbing, furniture and equipment shopping to advertising, signage, complete with an offering of nine trained staff to get business rolling.
Currently, The Treat has 10 existing locations throughout Johannesburg, with each franchisee holding total ownership of their business. Dany’s business model is cultivated to attract individuals/entrepreneurs with strong values, an ambition to succeed and the willingness to empower others.
